NATIONAL EYEGLASSES EXAM OUTLINE
STATION 1 - BASIC DISPENSING THEORY
The objective of this station is to test the candidates
basic dispensing knowledge. The student will be required to
answer a series of multiple choice questions on problem solving
and lens verification. They will be given 40 minutes to complete
this station.
STATION 2 - LENS DUPLICATION
The objective of this station is to test the candidates
ability to neutralize lenses using a lensometer, and measure
the physical aspects of the lenses using a lens clock, PD ruler,
and thickness calipers. The candidate will be given 45 minutes
to neutralize 3 pairs of glasses. They will be examined on all
types of lenses from single vision to progressive bifocals.
They will be given 45 minutes to complete this station.
STATION 3 - P.D. VERTEX AND BIFOCAL MEASUREMENT
The candidate will be examined on their ability
to measure monocular P.D.'s using both a PD ruler and penlight
and a pupilometer. They will also be examined on their ability
to take a vertex measurement using a vertex distometer. As well
they will be required to take the necessary measurements for
a progressive and a flat-top bifocal lens. They will be given
20 minutes to complete this station.
STATION 4 - LENS FINISHING
The objective of this station is to test the candidates
ability to edge a pair of uncut lenses into a plastic frame,
using either a precut former or a tracer. The candidate will
be given 30 minutes to edge a pair of single vision spherocylinder
lenses into a frame.
STATION 5 - VERIFICATION
The objective of this station is to test the candidates
ability to neutralize a pair of glasses to ensure that they
comply to their work order and that they meet standard tolerances.
The candidate will be given 45 minutes to neutralize 5 pairs
of glasses to determine if they meet standard tolerances. They
will be provided with the American National Standards Z80.1
tolerance chart.
STATION 6 - SERVICE
The objective of this station is to test the candidates
ability to place a metal frame into standard alignment and to
adjust the frame properly to fit an individual. The candidate
will also be required to reinsert a lens into a rimless nylon
mount frame. The student will be given 20 minutes to complete
this station.
The pass mark for the examination is a 61% overall.
