About the AOA
The Alberta Opticians Association was established in 1965. The Alberta Opticians Association (AOA) is the regulatory body for Opticians in Alberta. The AOA ensures Opticians are providing competent and effective care to their patients. The main function of the AOA is to protect the public.
The Alberta Opticians Association exists to regulate and improve the practice of Opticianry by ensuring that Opticians provide quality professional care in eye health.
The role of the AOA is to:

Monitor the competence of Opticians by continuing education

Protect the public from unsafe or unethical Opticianry practice

Protect the use of regulated title designation and initials, RO and RCLP

Review the professional conduct of members based on complaints

Provide continuing competency to Opticians that will promote ethical practice and provide tools and resources for our Opticians to continue to enhance their knowledge and skills
Mission
The College of Opticians of Alberta is a self-regulating body authorized by the Health Professions Act, serving to protect and educate Albertans concerning ophthalmic appliances, ophthalmic dispensing, vision counseling and optical prescriptions
